In Tegucigalpa, specifically in El Guanábano, a poor village that doesn’t even have access to drinking water, is the public school Julián López Pineda. It was founded in 1949, and currently, 207 children, not only from El Guanábano but also from the neighboring El Buen Samaritano, are taught by just 6 teachers. Therefore, an additional classroom is urgently needed to accommodate the different grade levels and to create new positions for additional teachers.
We are particularly moved by the dedication of this village, and that is why we are committed to the urgently needed completion of the construction that was started two years ago through the self-initiative of teachers, parents, and students. Despite all efforts, the classroom could not be completed. The walls have been erected, but the roof, windows, door, and flooring are still missing. The cost to finish and equip the classroom will be approximately €7,900 in total.
The school is located in an area near the landfill that serves the communities of Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela. This landfill is where most people work, trying to make a living by recycling. Even the boys and girls who attend school in the morning work on this landfill in the afternoons and during holidays, collecting cardboard, paper, cans, and plastic containers.
The Julián López Pineda public school sees its mission not only in providing knowledge to the children but also in fostering inner values. The goal is to raise them to be independent individuals who can apply their knowledge and thereby significantly contribute to the country’s development. This requires competent and responsible teachers, supportive parents, and children with critical awareness. Everything is in place; all that’s missing is the classroom!
Once again, all those involved in Tegucigalpa are ready to help as unskilled laborers and provide all the resources available within the community to finally complete this classroom.
With such dedication and goodwill, we are convinced that it is worth supporting this cause. If you feel the same, we would be grateful for your donation!
