Orkhon, part of the Selenge district, has about 3,000 inhabitants and is located 270 km from the capital Ulaanbaatar. Life is based on agriculture in a typical nomadic style, with livestock farming.
When the kindergarten was built in 1959, there were fewer residents. The kindergarten was designed for 60 children, but now there are 95 attending.
The original building was left unfinished during construction, and over the years, it was completed bit by bit with the hard work of the parents. The building hasn’t been renovated since 2001. Due to a lack of funds, many repairs were still needed. The local community itself has no financial resources.
We are very happy to have found a partner like EPO in Munich, who gave us the opportunity to renovate this kindergarten.
Many rooms were restored, the playground received new equipment, and new blankets and bedsheets were purchased. Much of the existing furniture had worn out, dating back to 1984. We had tables, game shelves, and a wardrobe built by a local carpenter.
The work was carried out during the summer months when the kindergarten was on summer break.
Thanks to the commitment of the parents, it was possible to restore the joyful oasis for children to its former glory.
