We give the gift of education!

With a deep understanding of the diversity of educational challenges faced by communities around the world, HappyBambini focuses on building educational facilities that create lasting positive change for children. We are committed to creating educational opportunities that are as diverse as the regions themselves. Our goal is to improve the well-being of people through targeted educational initiatives and to give them and their communities a hopeful future.

Mongolia

Mongolia is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world. As a landlocked country with no access to the sea and extreme climatic conditions, Mongolia is characterised by difficult natural conditions. Almost half of the population lives in rural areas, partly as sedentary and partly as nomadic pastoralists. Since 2014, Happy Bambini has been permanently involved in various places for kindergarten children and orphans. We have been able to provide many children with medical equipment, toys, play equipment, warm clothing and food and set up a sewing school for girls in 2015 and 2019. Thanks to our network of local supporters, we always have the opportunity to respond quickly to urgently needed help – for example in the renovation of kindergartens before the harsh winter.

Honduras

Honduras is one of the countries with the highest crime rate in the world. This is partly due to the fact that few children are able to go to school. Often because they have to work in the fields or on rubbish dumps to earn some money. The school system is generally inadequate and children often have to walk up to 5 kilometres to the nearest school. The school buildings are often only simple wooden structures. During the rainy months, they are therefore usually inaccessible as water seeps in from below and the ground turns to mud. We have been involved in the construction, modernisation and (sanitary) equipment of ten school buildings on site since 2012.

Sri Lanka

Before the renovation work at Madduma Bandara School in Kandy, the school had only one boys’ restroom, which was equipped with two broken urinals and a single squat toilet shared by both boys and girls. As part of the renovations, the two urinals in the boys’ restroom were replaced, and the room was tiled. Additionally, a completely new facility was constructed in the space between the existing sanitary facilities. This new building includes a toilet, a washbasin, and a shower, which can be used by both boys and girls.

The addition of the shower is especially important, as many of the students are children of street vendors or homeless families, and this may be their only opportunity to bathe. The existing toilet was also fully renovated.

Nepal

Happy Bambini has been active in Nepal, one of the world’s poorest countries, since 2013. The Shree Bal Bikash Lower Secondary School in Kathmandu serves around 250 children. With the help of donations, we were able to refurbish the school, which was originally built in 1953. Our efforts included installing new blackboards, setting up a library and computer facilities, and upgrading the sanitary facilities.

However, the devastating earthquake of 2015 nearly destroyed the old building. Reconstruction was initially impossible due to the risk of aftershocks, followed by a sharp rise in the cost of building materials. Despite these challenges, we helped erect a temporary wooden structure with a tin roof, allowing classes to continue.

We continue to monitor the situation closely, with the goal of laying the foundation stone for a new, earthquake-resistant school as soon as possible.
