La Lagunas is a tiny village in the mountains of Honduras, forgotten by God and the world. The poorest of the poor are forced to live here because they have no chance of finding work in the city. They live off what they can gather in the forest or grow in small gardens. The roofs of their houses are still made of straw or small branches from the forest. The house walls are made of dried mud, which usually needs to be renewed after the monsoon rains.
A simple wooden structure with a compacted dirt floor serves as their school. There are no tables or chairs, and no blackboard to write down the lesson topics. During the rainy season, the floor is often flooded and turns to mud, making it impossible to hold classes.
The children face many challenges at their age just to learn a little: they mostly walk barefoot to school, with pants and shirts that are often torn and inherited from older siblings. The village has asked us for help in providing a classroom where proper lessons can take place.
Our project would include: A classroom of 40 square meters, tables, chairs, a blackboard, and a small library with books to borrow. Only through proper education can the new generation improve their social position. Anyone who would like to help us will see how much joy will come back to all of us after the work is done!
